Bangalore's Pink Line Metro: Route, Station Areas and What Buyers Should Check

Bangalore's Pink Line is a north-south metro corridor, still under construction, that ties Bannerghatta Road to MG Road and Nagawara. Below, the route is walked from the northern terminus down to the south, with notes on which stretch is overhead and which is below ground. The article also reports October 2026 progress and finishes with a checklist for buyers weighing a home near a station.

Quick Facts

The Pink Line is around 21 km long with 18 stations, between Nagawara and Kalena Agrahara. BMRCL is building it as Reach 6 of Phase 2. Key details are:

  • Twelve underground stops between Nagawara in the north and Dairy Circle
  • Six elevated stops across a 7.5 km southern stretch
  • Changing points for the Purple Line (MG Road) and the Yellow Line (Jayadeva Hospital)
  • A planned Blue Line connection at Nagawara, where that line is also being built
  • Kothanur depot, and trains manufactured by BEML

Opening is planned in two phases, with the overhead stretch going first and the tunnel section after it. Dates for both depend on safety clearance.

Walking the Route From the North

Starting at the terminus and heading south, the stations fall into three clusters.

Nagawara to Cantonment

The route starts at Nagawara, where the Outer Ring Road passes a short way from the Manyata Tech Park offices. A Blue Line station is also planned there, and that line is being built between KR Pura and the airport. The nearest big stock of new flats is in Thanisandra and along Hennur Road.

South of Nagawara come Kadugondanahalli, Venkateshpura, Tannery Road and Pottery Town, which serve the crowded neighbourhoods around Frazer Town. Cantonment station is planned beside the city's Cantonment railway station, so passengers can change to suburban and long-distance trains.

Shivajinagar to Dairy Circle

Heading south, the line reaches Shivaji Nagar, by the bus terminal and the wholesale markets. At MG Road it crosses the Purple Line, whose route is Challaghatta to Whitefield. Housing around these stops is largely older flats and independent houses, with a few new premium projects.

National Military School and Langford Town cover the Richmond Town part of the core. Lakkasandra and Dairy Circle end the tunnel, near medical and office clusters along Hosur Road and the start of Bannerghatta Road. After Dairy Circle the line surfaces and heads to Tavarekere.

Tavarekere to Kalena Agrahara

The overhead part tracks Bannerghatta Road. Its most important stop is Jayadeva Hospital, where riders can switch to the Yellow Line, which links RV Road, Electronic City and Bommasandra. JP Nagar 4th Phase, for JP Nagar and BTM Layout, is also pencilled in as the first station of the Phase 3 Orange Line.

Hulimavu and IIMB are the stops for the high-rise cluster in Arekere and Bilekahalli. The southern terminus is Kalena Agrahara, close to Gottigere.

Progress in October 2026

The elevated section is complete, and its trains have wrapped up their trials. On 23 September 2026 the Railway Board gave its approval to the BEML rolling stock. Passenger service needs a final inspection and sign-off from the metro railway safety commissioner.

The target has been pushed back several times: first late 2025, then August 2026, and now October 2026. BMRCL will name the day after the safety sign-off. For now, all six overhead stations should be counted as unfinished in any plan.

Tunnelling is finished on the underground section, and station, track and systems work continues. Officials have talked of 2027, though reports give different months. Only the opening of this section completes the line and both interchanges.

How Each Phase Affects Daily Travel

Phase one brings a metro to Bannerghatta Road for the first time. A rider bound for the city core changes trains twice, first onto the Yellow Line at Jayadeva Hospital and then onto the Green Line at RV Road. A passenger for Electronic City changes only once, at Jayadeva Hospital.

Phase two matters more. A single train will take residents of Hulimavu and JP Nagar to MG Road, Shivajinagar and Cantonment. Frazer Town and Nagawara residents will get to the centre, and to the Purple Line, entirely by metro.

Flats close to the tunnel stations gain later, and barricades still narrow the streets near several of them. A buyer there should find out when the street outside the project reopens fully. The biggest winners are people working around MG Road, after the whole line runs.

Buyer Checklist

A nearby station helps only if the door-to-door trip works. Keep these points in view while comparing homes along the corridor:

  • Walk from the project to the station gate in the evening rush and note the minutes
  • Establish which section the nearest station belongs to, since the two sections will not open together
  • Calculate the whole journey to work, counting every interchange
  • Compare the asking rate with comparable homes 1 to 2 km from the corridor
  • Base the budget on today's reality and view an unopened station as an upside
  • Verify the project's RERA registration and sanctions on the state portal, since the metro says nothing about them
  • Find out whether parking or feeder buses exist if the walk is over 10 minutes

If a loan is needed, run both options through the EMI calculator: a flat beside a station and a cheaper one further out. Keep the loan terms identical so the comparison is fair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the Pink Line run?+
Covering around 21 km, the line has 18 stations. Starting in the south at Kalena Agrahara, it heads north via Jayadeva Hospital, JP Nagar, Dairy Circle, Shivajinagar, MG Road and Cantonment, finishing at Nagawara.
How much of the line is below ground?+
Twelve of the 18 are in tunnels, in the stretch from Nagawara back to Dairy Circle. The remaining six are elevated and spread across 7.5 km of Bannerghatta Road, ending at Tavarekere.
Can passengers ride the Pink Line now?+
Not at the start of October 2026. The overhead stretch and its approved trains are ready, and what remains is clearance from the metro railway safety commissioner. Tunnel stations follow afterwards.
Where can passengers change to other metro lines?+
MG Road is the stop for the Purple Line, and Jayadeva Hospital is the stop for the Yellow Line. Nagawara will add a Blue Line connection once that line is built, and the planned Orange Line is to start from JP Nagar 4th Phase.
Which neighbourhoods will the Pink Line serve?+
Overhead stations cater to Gottigere and Hulimavu in the south, then Arekere and the JP Nagar and BTM Layout areas. Tunnel stations cater to Richmond Town, the MG Road core, Frazer Town, Shivajinagar, Dairy Circle and Nagawara, near Thanisandra and Hennur Road.
