Nine Big Bangalore Infrastructure Projects and How Far Each One Has Got (October 2026)

Announcements about new roads and metro lines are easy to find in Bangalore. What is harder to find is a plain statement of how far each one has actually got. This article places nine major projects into four groups as of early October 2026: carrying traffic, being built, waiting on a contract, or still only an idea. For a home buyer, the group is a better guide than how loud the headline is.
Reading the Nine Projects at a Glance
The projects fall into these four groups.
- Carrying traffic in part: NHAI's Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway and its Satellite Town Ring Road
- Under construction: the Pink and Blue metro lines (BMRCL) and the suburban rail corridors (K-RIDE)
- Approved but waiting for a contractor: the Business Corridor from BDA, plus the tunnel road between Hebbal and Silk Board and the Outer Ring Road upgrade, which both belong to B-SMILE
- Planned only: KWIN City and the Intermediate Ring Road, under KIADB and BMRDA
Highways With Sections Open
NHAI, the national highways body, is building both roads, and their routes cross at Hoskote.
The ring road around the satellite towns
This loop is about 280.8 km long and encircles the towns beyond the city, across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Traffic has used the 80 km Dobbaspet to Hoskote section, via Doddaballapura and Devanahalli, since March 2024. The last 21 km towards Tamil Nadu is nearly done, but a railway overbridge near Hoskote is still pending.
Once that opens, motorists get an uninterrupted road heading south-east from Dobbaspet to Hosur, and a quicker trip from Hosur to the airport. On the west and south, the loop is at an earlier stage. Buyers looking at Kanakapura, Ramanagara and Magadi should regard the road there as a plan.
The expressway to Chennai
About 262 km long, the expressway links Hoskote with Sriperumbudur across three states. In Karnataka, 71 km of the road, running up to Bethamangala, has carried vehicles since December 2024. A later opening in Andhra Pradesh adds 25 km, so close to 100 km is now continuous from Hoskote.
Tamil Nadu holds up the full route because of land disputes and the relocation of power lines. Target dates for completion have slipped repeatedly. For people near Hoskote or on Old Madras Road, the gain today is a link towards Kolar and eastwards.
Rail Projects That Are Being Built
Each of these three has missed earlier deadlines, which makes site progress a more reliable signal than any promised opening date.
Pink Line and Blue Line of Namma Metro
The Pink Line is about 21 km long with 18 stations, starting at Kalena Agrahara (Bannerghatta Road) and ending at Nagawara. Six elevated stations as far as Tavarekere are built and were pending the mandatory safety inspection in early October 2026. The underground portion beneath MG Road and Shivajinagar comes afterwards.
The Blue Line links Central Silk Board with the airport over 58.19 km and 30 stations, with KR Pura and Hebbal on the way. BMRCL has pushed operations between Silk Board and KR Pura into 2027. The airport leg follows as a later phase.
Suburban rail by K-RIDE
Four corridors totalling roughly 148 km are under way: to Devanahalli, Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara, Kengeri to Whitefield and Heelalige to Rajanukunte. The Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara line, around 25 km, is the most advanced. Its opening date has changed more than once, and the other three lines are earlier in the process. If a flat is marketed with "suburban rail access", find out which of the four lines is meant and if any work has begun there.
Road Projects Awaiting Contractors
These carry sanctions and budgets but show little work on the ground. Contracts and land will set their pace.
Business Corridor (the former Peripheral Ring Road)
This 74 km road, planned by the Bangalore Development Authority, would begin on Tumakuru Road and end on Hosur Road. It swings round the north and east, meeting Old Madras Road and Ballari Road on the way.
In June 2026, a Rs. 3,348 crore contract lasting 36 months went to its first stretch, about 20 km long, linking Tumakuru Road with Ballari Road. Other packages depend on land, where the state has approved a new compensation package for 948 acres and acquisition continues. North Bangalore buyers are on firmer ground, since the awarded package is on the northern side.
Upgrade of the Outer Ring Road
A Rs. 450 crore programme is meant for a 17 km length of the ORR, with Silk Board at one end and KR Puram at the other. There are two parts. The first, Silk Board to Iblur, is 5.44 km and Rs. 143 crore. The longer one, 11.57 km at Rs. 307 crore, continues to KR Puram.
Bus stops, utility ducts, drains, better junctions, footpaths and cycle tracks are all included. The tender for the bigger part closed in July 2026, which is the latest step reported.
The Hebbal to Silk Board tunnel
The tunnel would run 16.75 km between Hebbal and Central Silk Board. The government's estimate was Rs. 17,698 crore, but the lowest tender, opened in December 2025, came to Rs. 22,267 crore. The contract was still unawarded at the time of writing. A separate, shorter tunnel at the Hebbal junction had its foundation stone laid in June 2026.
Ideas Not Yet Under Way
First floated in 2007, the 210 km Intermediate Ring Road was revived by the state in April 2026 on an alignment close to the original. It would connect Anekal, Dommasandra, Hoskote, Devanahalli, Nelamangala, Bidadi and Harohalli, and BMRDA will build it in phases.
KWIN City, announced in September 2024, is a planned 5,800-acre district between Dobbaspet and Doddaballapura, aimed at colleges, research and health care. Acquiring land has barely started and has drawn protests from farmers. Plots bought on either promise could face a very long wait.
A Simple Test for Buyers
The worth of an open road can be seen at once, on a drive. Value from one being built arrives later and may be delayed. A plan, on its own, deserves little weight in what is paid today.
Three questions cover most claims.
- Is the project open, being built, or merely announced?
- Is a contractor appointed and the land secured?
- Would the home still make sense without this project?
Even one locality can have different answers. Devanahalli and Sarjapura Road each feature in several plans at different stages. Ask us what is running now close to any project listed here.
